Learning at WHPS

Student Learner Portfolios

Student Learning Portfolios are special collections of your child's work that show how they are growing and learning over time. You'll see samples of their work, with attached criteria to explain how they are being assessed. Portfolios are an excellent way to celebrate their progress!

Progress Reports & Report Cards

These reports give you a snapshot of how your child is doing at school - both in their learning and in personal growth. You'll receive 2 progress reports (fall and spring) and 2 report cards (January and June), to help keep you informed and involved.

Weekly Teacher Emails

Every week, your child's teacher will send an email with class updates, important reminders, and key learning outcomes to be covered. It's a helpful way to stay in the loop and support learning at home.

Grade 2 & 3 Daily Math Fact Fluency

In Grades 2 and 3, students practice quick math skills each day, like adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. This helps build speed and confidence with numbers, setting them up for success in more advanced math later on.

Literacy & Numeracy Intervention Systems

Some students benefit from a little extra support in reading, writing, or math. These programs provide small group or one-on-one instruction to help every child succeed at their own pace.

Morning Reading Camp

Offered before school, this fun and friendly reading time gives students extra practice with reading skills in a relaxed setting. It's a great boost for confidence and fluency!

Home Reading Programs

Each class has its own way of encouraging reading at home. Students bring books back and forth to read with family members, helping to build strong habits and a love for reading.
